Required Skills & Experience
• Masters of Science
• PA degree
• ASCP certification within 6 months of hire
• Experience with high complexity cases (ex breast cases, colon cases, limbs, larynx, esophageal, orbits)
• Prior experience working in a laboratory setting
Job Description
The Pathologist Assistant will be responsible for grossing and handling complex cases that arrive in the laboratory from both internal and external sources, with most cases coming from internal sources. They will collaborate daily with other team members based on the complexity of each case and its specific needs. Additionally, they will work closely with the attending on their assigned cases to complete the necessary tasks for submitting residual tissues. The Pathologist Assistant is also responsible for covering frozen sections, primarily focusing on specimen preparation for cutting and staining. After the frozen section, they will ensure the submission of residual tissues for permanent processing, along with completing the gross analysis of the frozen section.
